For a few months, since we moved to San Francisco, we’ve been frequenting the ‘Red Cafe’ on the corner of Mission and 25th St. On average, we go there once a week and have numerous items on their two page breakfast menu. We normally enjoy fresh squeezed orange juice, coffee, tea, water and our respective breakfast choices. It never costs us more than $25.00. Today I decided that I like the Red Cafe the best out of the vast brunch options in the Mission District. As such, I dedicate this love letter to them.

Dear Red Cafe,

I saw you again today and you never fail to satisfy my need. Semi anonymous, I began to get excited as I walked through your door. Cheerfully you greeted me, a glimmer of acknowledgment. Anticipating my desires, you shuffled me to ‘my spot’ in the middle near a sun beam. I never have to wait for your attentions and your smile warms my heart. My throat was parched and so you offered me some water. This time I needed more stimulation and you suggested iced tea.

You never judge me for looking like I’ve been out all night.

You offer so much for so very little. When I tell you what I need, you listen. You have exactly the right amount of salt and sugar for my weekly rations. I dream of your French Slam, your tasty meats and scrambled delights. So what if you do not have eggs benny on the menu? I forgive you because you know what you’re good at and that makes all the difference.

I will see you again soon, my lovely Red Cafe. Devouring your treasures with a healthy appetite.

Love and mornings… even in the afternoon,

Erin.
